Pack Out Hunting
by Tim Thiessen

Well, with much of the wolf pack out hunting deer, there weren’t to many left to play in Saturdays game against the Chiefs.  Those that could make it were Kenton and Allen on Defense, Ian, JJ, Mark, Tim, and Ryan on offense, and Kevin in goal.  After waiting a few extra minutes for the ref’s to show up both teams agreed to play without them.  A consensus was reached between the teams that the game would not have been played if the phantoms were the opponents.

So despite being short skaters and no-show refs the game went on as planned.  Through two periods the Wolves managed to hold the Chiefs at bay, trailing by a lone goal going into the third frame, 6-5.  The pack ran out of steam during the third though and managed only one goal as the Chiefs went on to win 11-6.  Kevin had his worked cut out for him and was peppered with shots for most of the game.  It was clear he was a bit rusty but he also made some beautiful saves including one memorable save doing the splits.  Ryan managed 4 goals throughout the game and Mark potted a pair as well.  It was a strong effort and with a few more guys the game might well have turned into another win.

Season Update

Two weeks into the season and the T-Wolves find themselves one game below .500.  The season started off with a loss to the Chiefs by a score of 8-4.  The game was kept close until the third where the Chiefs proved to be to much for the pack to handle.  Week two of the season saw the Wolves play a double header against the Phantoms and the Dycks.  Hungry for a win the team came out flying and never looked back.  They obliterated the Phantoms in what is a team high for goals by a score of 10-1.  For the first time in franchise history the team was at .500.  But....that didn't last long as the T-Wolves dropped their second game of the double header to the Dycks by a score of 5-3.  They played good enough to win but could not figure out the Dycks break away passes which led to two goals and ultimately the win.  The men in grey played a solid game and spent the majority game in the Dycks end buzzing the net but could not find a way to solve the Dyck net-minder more than three times.  It was a disappointing loss, but one that should build the teams character and ability to compete in the long haul.  A 1-2 start is the best start in team history and they will look to improve to 2-2 against the Southwinds on Saturday.

Schedule For First Game and Fee Change

Ladies, and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, we finally have nailed down when the first game of the season will be.  It will be in Niverville @ 5:00 against the Chiefs on Saturday, Oct 17.  Also the cost for the season is now $200.  Please bring your money to the first game.

And The Winner Is...

The grey socks with black stripes.  After tallying the countless votes, the team has ordered their matching socks.  It was a very tight battle and we would like to thank all who voted.  The new socks should arrive before the season starts so that we will have them for the first game.  The team also ordered a couple of extra jersey's.  For all you ladies that were opposed to us getting socks, well you will just have to pay a little more attention to the game to see who has the puck.

Sock Options

The poll for socks has closed.  We are now tallying all the votes and will get back to you with the winner.

Practice Makes Perfect

Well as the season draws closer, some members of the T-Wolves were once again out fine tuning their skills.  Team members Ralph Reimer, Tim Thiessen, Jerome Thiessen, and Josh Thiessen were seen out on the Blumenort rink.  They were doing some shoot-out drills and basically making Tim work really hard as they were just having some fun on passing plays.  A rather large crowd was on hand watching the stars after a buzz spread through town that members of the Wolves were having an outdoor practice.  All four players stayed around after the practice to sign autographs and in Jerome and Ralph's cases, hand out phone numbers.  After practice we caught up with Tim Thiessen.  "Yeah, we figured that we should give a little back to the community and hold an outdoor practice.  These fans support us all season long and we figured we should give a little back.  It is a little unfortunate though that we didn't have more come out.  Maybe next time."

Team Financials

The team's financial numbers have come in.  This season each full time player will be required to pay $215 for the season.  $208 for the season and $7 dollars for socks.  The team will kick in the rest to cover the socks as their was a little bit of excess in the accounts after last season.  Please bring your money to the first game so that we are not forced to pay the higher entry fee.

Free Agent Signing

Well Twolves.com has learned that Ryan Peters has signed a very lucrative 25 year deal with the T-Wolves.  This puts him under contract until he is over 50 so it may need to be extended in the future.  Management will look into this in the next off-season.  A big welcome goes out to Ryan Peters and we hope we won't let you down.

Off Season Moves

As the 2009/10 season approaches, the T-Wolves brass are busy finalizing rosters and preparing for the upcoming season.  Training camps are in full swing and many players are seeing their hopes of finally playing for the prestigious Pack dashed before their eyes as all the veterans are beginning to file their way into camp.  This upcoming Monday will mark the end to camp and the T-Wolves management will be left with the terrible task of cutting the roster down to size.  This year will be tougher than others as the league has once again decided to enforce the roster limits.  The maximum size roster will be 18 skaters and a goalie.  The rule in the past has not been enforced but due to some blatant violations the rule will be brought back.

The T-Wolves have been busy this offseason, dabbling in the free agent market and trying to sign draft picks.  The team is currently in negotiations with Ryan Peters of the Predators.  A source has said that they are offering him a very lucrative one way deal that would see him the highest paid member of the Wolves.  He has yet to commit but sources say they are very close.

Also in what was a bit of a surprise this offseason, the Wolves have traded the rights to Teagan Elhard for Ralph Reimer, a second round pick of the Southwinds.  Twolves.com caught up with GM Landon Elhard, “Yeah, we had to think long and hard about this one.  But we decided that due to the recent success landing the negotiation rights to Keenan and Noah Gryde and we have a 50-50 chance of landing another big fish come the end of October, we could afford to trade away some young talent for a player that is ready to make an impact right now.”  Ralph Reimer brings a big 6’ plus frame and is known for a long reach.  The T-Wolves might try to take advantage of that by trying him out on defense along side Jerome Thiessen.  Jerome has jumped up and down from the farm team but is looking to make statement this year and has already nailed down an opening game spot.  The T-Wolves have also got back tough guy JJ Spence.  As many will remember, JJ played for the Pack two years ago but was suspended and had to sit out all of last season because of that crazy on-ice incident.  Spence has been really training hard this offseason to get back into game day shape after missing a full season.

The T-Wolves have also signed some training camp hopefuls to two way contracts.  They include Jonathan Thiessen, Matthew Thiessen, Gerald Thiessen, Dennis Thiessen and Ian Prysizney.  They have also signed Kirk Gryde to a one game contract after watching his youtube videos where he is known as 'Merlin' because of his magic hands.  Hopefully he is a lot better than the crappy CBC show(sorry Tim).  He will be a tough player to sign long term however, as his travel expenses would be more than the teams season entry fee.  The Wolves however failed to sign free agent Mike Wiebe and draft pick Greg Dyck.

This season looks to be a promising one for the T-Wolves.  There is a positive buzz in the locker room and players are itching to get onto the ice for some real game action.  Defenseman Wayne Gryde was overheard making these comments about the upcoming season, “Dub G is telling you we are gonna have a great season.  Dub G guarantees to be a point per game if that inconsiderate GM would put Dub G on forward.”

Well than…nothing like a little controversy to start the season.

Get the Skates Sharpened

Well it is that time again.  The 2009/10 season is just around the corner and as mentioned in the forums there is an ice time planned at the T.G. Smith arena in Steinbach.  It is at 7:00 pm on Monday, September 28.  There is a scrimmage planned for part of the ice time so please bring all your equipment.  The cost will be dependant on how many guys show up, so bring 10 dollars and we will go from there.  I am not sure if Landon will be ready but bring the cheque book just in case Landon needs money for the season.  I know that if we pay early enough we will get a discount on the season.  This years team entry fee is $2700 if we pay early enough and $3000 if we are late on our payment.  So bring a cheque and get it into Landon right aways so that everyone can save a few bucks.
