Double Header Baby
Well after yet another loss last weekend the T-Wolves go into this weekend trying to turn thetables and get into the Win column for the first time in franchise history. They will get two shots at it as they play the Phantoms at 5:15 in Ste. Agathe on Saturday and the Dycks at 3:15 in Niverville on Sunday. In prior games this year the Wolves lost to the Phantoms 11-2 and to the Dycks 6-4. The T-Wolves will look for a better showing against the Phantoms this time as they had a very lack luster performance in the first meeting. If the Wolves could manage a drawin the first period of either game they will have a chance. That is their worst period often allowing a goal on the first shift which really drains the team. Unlike last year the latter half of the game has always been better and the Pack will look to play that way in the first half of the game and continue it all the way through. The T-Wolves offence will need to pick it up as well. As Mark Thiessen said in an earlier interview, "this team is offensively challenged." That will have to be remedied in short order to get a win this weekend. The defence had been playing well up to last week but allowed 9 goals last week. They should be ready to go this weekend looking forredemption. Dennis Thiessen has been placed on injured reserve and probably won't be activated until late next week. Other than that the team should be intact and may look for another forward to replace Dennis thisweekend.
WOLVES WIN, WOLVES WIN!!!!!!
Believe it or not, the T-Wolves……. for the first time in franchise history are…………..wait for it…………WINNERS!!!!!!! And the crowd goes wild!!!!! Well the boys in grey played a complete game. All facets of the game were done well; defense, offence and special teams.
Here’s the recap. The Southwinds opened the scoring in the first by sliding a puck far side on goaltender Tim Thiessen. That was all for the first as the two teams were playing good defensive hockey and Tim was standing on his head making big saves. Then it happened, the second period arrived and the T-Wolves opened the flood gates and before you knew it they had a 4-1 lead. Josh Thiessen opened when he took a pass at the side of the goal mouth and was able to shovel one over the sprawling goaltender. Shortly after, Allen Thiessen took a pass and wired a shot from the point that was gloved in by a Southwinds defender. Then on an odd man rush Landon Elhard attempted a pass to Sol but before it got there Josh intercepted the pass and one timed it into the net. Then in the dying seconds of the second period Mark Thiessen chased a puck into the corner and wired a pass across to the streaking Merwyn Penner who one timed it passed the Southwinds keeper. Two minutes into the third the Southwinds drew one closer but one minute later on the power play Merwyn took a pass from Kenton Thiessen, walked into the slot and let a wrist shot go that beat the goalie far side over the blocker. Once again however with 5:19 remaining the Southwinds found the back of the net. Late in the third the play started to get a little rough. There was a few tussles and the T-Wolves found themselves down a man after a Merwyn came to the aid of Wayne Gryde who was wrestling with what seemed like the whole Southwinds team. The Southwinds then pulled their goalie and Allen was able to fire a puck down and he was right on the mark sealing the game.
On November 3rd the Southwinds stomped on the Wolves beating them 11-2 but the pack got their revenge beating the prevailing winds from the South 6-3 in a great game. Tim kept the team in there with some amazing saves, the team played great defensively, and finally the Wolves were able to get some scoring. All around a sweet first win.
